Some tips for gym beginners: • Ease into training (start once a week, then twice etc.) • The gym should work around YOUR life. You dont have to follow someone else’s routine or the number of times they go a week. Go at your own pace. • Just show up, even if it’s to walk on the treadmill. • If you’re really anxious, bring a friend!! • Don’t be afraid to ask, as someone whose regularly at the gym, I am MORE than happy to help anyone within the scope of my knowledge. • Go in with a plan. Write out what you’re going to do, instead of doing every machine you see. • I promise, everybody else is concerned about their own gains, they are not looking at you. • Do your research, I used to (and still do) sit on the gym floor watching form videos before doing them. Even the most advanced lifters need to reminded of form queues. • Set realistic goals, be kind to yourself. Don’t expect to be The Rock after a week at the gym. • Familiarise yourself with equipment and do movement that you enjoy (find a variation you enjoy). I used to hide in the training rooms. Oversized shirts and caps. Dropping weights, failing to lift just the bar, losing balance, hitting myself. You name it, Ive done it. But guess what?! That’s OKAY.
