In this video, Giles Yeo (a legit professor and expert of obesity genetics) talks about what happens when your body loses weight. Yes, your body has inbuilt mechanisms that make weight loss harder over time. These are subconscious; they happen without you realising. They are biological phenomenons. Behaviourally, this *DOES NOT* mean that long-term weight loss is impossible and many people get mad at me when I talk about this kind of research, as if it somehow implies nobody should ever try to lose weight full stop (which I have obviously never said). But *IT DOES* mean that long-term weight loss for many people is extremely difficult. And when people on social media say things like “weight loss is easy, you just need to eat less, move more” or “fat people are just lazy”, it shows a distinct lack of knowledge on what causes obesity and why weight loss can be so hard. Make sense?
