What you need to know before you go👇🏼 📍Bear Gulch Cave 🥾 To access this cave I parked at the Bear Gulch Day Use Area in Pinnacles National Park. I then hiked about 0.5 miles along High Peaks Trail to Moses Springs trail to Bear Gulch Cave Trail until I was at the entrance of the cave. 💧Wear water shoes because you will likely be walking through puddles and trickling streams. 💡A headlamp is also required since areas of the cave get quite dark! 🦇 The cave is sometimes closed due to the endangered bats that live there. The Lower Cave is typically open from mid-July to mid-May, as long as the hibernating bats are not disturbed. Visitors can explore this section without needing to turn back, even when the upper section is closed. The Upper Cave is rarely open, to protect the bats that roost there. Both sections of the cave fully close during mid-May through mid-July for the pupping season, when the bats are raising their young. The entire cave is also open twice a year, during March and October, for 1-4 weeks depending on bat presence.
