We should be encouraging our children to see math as a set of tasks where we determine what needs to be done based on our current understanding. this is way way way overly complicated. the old math is straight forward and understandable. don't make math any more confusing than what it needs to be.

Awesome… but, there’s no old math vs new math. The system wants children to learn things that will come later in life, and they forget about age appropriate math.

that's cool but when you need to do math quickly drawing all that stuff out isn't helpful. both methods should be taught. one for understanding. one for efficiency.

nope, the kids cannot see this until they have a grasp on the old way to so it. too high of a cognitive load. so focusing on the new way leaves students confused and unable to do maths

I think my issue with the new methods is that they aren’t taught correctly so teachers, students and parents have no idea how it work. They just get more confused.
