The sounds of Florence-Delphine Roux 📡 I often work at the library in Quebec City. One day, on my way there, I came across someone setting up audio equipment near a cave. That person was Florence-Delphine Roux, preparing her performance for "L'Écoute" festival. We started talking, and she invited me to come and listen to her performance later that evening. After finishing my work for the day, I returned to the cave. A small crowd had already gathered. Someone handed me a pair of wireless headphones. Florence-Delphine was seated beneath a pyramid, with an ambisonic recorder perched at its peak to capture the site’s 360-degree soundscape. Next to her were two large antennas, set up to capture natural radio waves. The performance began, and I put on my headphones. For several minutes, Florence-Delphine took us on a journey through layered soundscapes, natural VLF and VHF radio waves, data sonification, and accounts of mysterious phenomena. She ended her performance with the soundscape of the very place we were in, creating a moment of pure connection. I walked away deeply moved by the experience. A few days later, I reached out to her, hoping for the chance to share another listening session together.
