We decided to remove the old kitchen ourselves. It wasn’t salvageable as a lot of the base units were crumbling, so we didn’t have to be careful, and it was just a matter of ripping out everything. It was extremely dusty and messy so be prepared. Our tiler was absolutely amazing and he did explain to us that the design I wanted and the tiles that I selected would increase his costs. I went for a very intricate tile layout, herringbone, with very small tiles, which means that he had a lot of cutting to do and it took up more time. This meant that he had a higher labour cost because of the time he spent on the project. I wanted to make sure that we had the shelves incorporated in the design of our kitchen, because it is such a small space that I didn’t want it feel like it was just boxed in by cabinetry. But it just so happened that this gave us a little bit of a saving as cabinets are more expensive than the shelves. Plumbing is expensive! Especially if you are changing all of the plumbing and moving all of your pipes around. A lot of kitchen companies share offers on how to save money by having your kitchen cabinets arrive flat packed. This can be very tempting, but remember that your fitter will only increase their labour costs to assemble any flat packed furniture. The main way that we saved money was by opting to go with a kitchen company who were an online only kitchen company. They saved money as a business through not having the overheads as traditional kitchen companies would have as they do not have showrooms. The company that we went for passed these savings on to the customer. They also offered us discounts at partner retailers so that we could get some savings on other parts of the kitchen renovation, such as tiles, appliances, lighting, paint. #kitchendesignideas #kitchendesigner #interiordesigner
