Japanese taquero Yamato Furuya fell in love with tacos while living with a family in Mexico City. There, he learned how to cook and even picked up Spanish. In 2018, Yamato returned to Japan to care for his aging parents and needed a way to support himself. Although tacos existed in Japan, he noticed a gap—authentic CDMX-style street tacos were nowhere to be found.
