YUP. as a BCBA many of our clients have had service delays because of UHC (we help them apply for state medical assistance and that covers our services) but the families still experience delays.

Just got my own UHC denial for an ER visit. They also denied ALL of my out-of-network psychotherapy to apply to my out of pocket expenses. 700/month. They exhaust us fighting so we don’t.

I used to be an ABA therapist; kids who never spoke learned to speak, kids who never interacted with other kids learned cooperative play, so many kids were able to integrate eventually in school. 💜

United health care has denied my sons mris every 3 months for his spine after he was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer last February, thankfully StJude is doing a study on his brain cancer or idk what we would have done!

This hurts my heart. ABA helped my daughter so much with coping with her sensory sensitivity and I don’t know what we would have done. I’m glad we went with Amerihealth and not UHC for her benefits.

I work in insurance… unfortunately, this isn’t new or specific to United. It’s disgusting. There’s a lot of controversy around ABA, however I doubt that’s the reason that they won’t cover it.

BCBA here. I have never had a problem getting hours for my kiddos with ASD. I base my treatment plans based on the symptoms of ASD and I taylor goals to these symptoms and have never had a denial.
