@literallyhistoric: Is there going to be a deluge of comments telling me I’m a moron with no life skills? We’ll see! #lifehacks #cookingtips #DidYouKnow
Apparently I’m old because I did in fact know this. However, sometimes I’ll eat an apple without washing it first…sooo….🤷🏻♀️

I knew this but I do think it’s less important with newer pipes. It’s probably like how eating raw egg bits CAN make you sick but USUALLY doesn’t.

Hot water has been sitting in your hot water tank. Cold water is fresh.

Tankless hot water heaters weren’t that common in previous generations. Just make sure you know “why” and not just hot vs cold.

I got a letter about this from my city literally today. They said my pipes were made of material of “unknown origin” which is terrifying

So like, what even is the point of hot water from the tap? Just for showers? We just strictly cannot consume hot water from a sink or faucet of any kind? This is outrageous 😳 I’m suing

and AND you are “supposed” to run the cold tap for 1 MINUTE before using. My baby had high lead levels becuase we didn’t know the hot water thing. Much less the cold water one!! She’s 10 & healthy now

My chemistry teacher once told me that cold water boils faster, so Idk how accurate that is, but I’ve always started with cold water

My water heater is 15 years old and barely works and my landlords won’t replace it because it still gives me 15 minutes of hot water. It has never been flushed. I feel so slimy. Cold water even

We have a tankless water heater so thankfully I don’t have to worry about this anymore, give it 20 years and it’ll be an old wives tales

That’s a British thing. Our water is fine to drink hot from the tap, it comes from the same source as our drinking water. That’s why it’s ok we have mix taps.

I don’t think it matters if it’s hot or cold bc it’s coming from the same place. Just flush the water aka run the water for 1-2 minutes before using and there will be less lead.
