I started having these realizations after my dad died shortly before I was 30. I at least want my children getting some money when they lose me to make the emotional transition without me easier

I work for the VA Natl Cemetery Admin, everyone should have life insurance. It's devastating to family left behind if you don't have at least enough set back to cover your funeral/cremation.
