To be very clear, I am actually a homeowner and all of the things that I’ve done in this video are things that I’ve done to my own home. But I’ve chosen this audio to help me illustrate a few points as I’ve explained below: 1) I frequently get asked questions about renter friendly ideas and I always reply with the same information. There are so many renter friendly ideas shared on social media and I use command strips, instead of drilling holes or nailing up pictures on walls or hanging up small peg rails. 2) I think that it’s great to share options for other people to consider in case it’s a possibility for them. There are many people out there who also have an agreement with their landlords. For instance, if you rent, you absolutely have the option of at least speaking to your landlord and getting prior permission to do up the house - though please get this in writing in case things turn sour! So if you are planning on living in a property for a long time, and you get on well with your landlord, then they may very well be happy for you to do things around the house, paint walls or lay a new floor… all the things that would otherwise cost your landlord money. The landlord may be really happy to have a tenant who is willing to maintain the property. So it’s worth asking! 3) I see so many comments on social media of people berating others for doing up their rental home, as it’s generally considered silly to spend time and money doing up a rental. As I understand it, there are some countries where it’s actually unusual to own your own home and people instead rent for decades. So those people renovate kitchens and bathrooms during their time renting a property. So perhaps it isn’t weird if you do up a rental… and maybe we shouldn’t judge those who do. As long as everyone involved is happy with the situation then that’s all that matters. Plus, it has the added benefit of making people happy! I personally don’t see the problem with that, as long as the landlord and tenant are in agreement. #homerenovationideas #diyhomedecor #interiordesigner
