@mamalindacooks: At 49, I finally had my first colonoscopy this week. I was planning to keep this private, but after chatting with my nurse, I felt compelled to share. He told me his own story—no family history of colon cancer, yet during his first colonoscopy, they found cancer. He was completely shocked but incredibly grateful it was caught early. Since then, he’s had 3 more, and he emphasized how many men never get one. Colonoscopy is the most effective way to detect and prevent colon cancer early. The recommended age for a first screening is 45 for individuals at average risk and earlier for those with a family history of colon cancer, certain genetic conditions, or other risk factors. Not gonna lie, the prep was unpleasant … but bearable. I had to drink this pretty nasty potion twice. I won’t need to do this for another 10 years though, so all is well.
