I have yet to make up my mind about this IKEA hack for a built in drawer and shelf unit in my dining room. In the past, we probably could have finished this project really quickly if it were just the two of us. But doing the work around childcare and work commitments has proved to be very challenging and it certainly makes me wonder about where I draw the line for DIY projects and what my limits are. This will certainly be where I draw the line in the future, but I am really happy with the results so far and the progress that we have made. I have also really liked learning about some new things that we haven’t tried before this project, so it has been well worth it for us. I would add a word of caution though, for anyone who may consider doing one of the IKEA hacks that you see on social media. I purposely designed this project to be as simple as possible, whilst looking as good as possible and I know that this will have a huge positive impact on our home storage situation. BUT, this is a very time-consuming project and is quite fiddly especially if you live in an old house like we do and the walls are not straight or even, which doesn’t help! So as much as I advocate for trying something out yourself with a DIY project, keep in mind that a project like this still costs quite a lot of money for all of the materials and tools if you haven’t already got them. Of course you can rent tools, but keep in mind the time it takes to do a project like this, around your full-time job and looking after dependents if you have them. I will make up my mind fully once the project is complete! #diningroomdesign #ikeahack #ikeamalm #homestorage #homeinteriors
