Four teenagers have been charged over an alleged transphobic attack in which an 18-year-old #transwoman was st*bbed at a roller-skating party. The victim was attending the party with friends at the Harrow Leisure Centre, in Wealdstone, north west London, on the evening of 10 February. It has been reported that she was st*bbed 14 times, after being subjected to transphobic slurs. She was taken to hospital and later discharged. Summer Betts-Ramsey, 19, was arrested the day after the incident and been charged with attempted m*rder and possession of an offensive weapon, the Metropolitan Police said. A 16-year-old girl has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, robbery and possession of cannabis. Both will appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday (12 March). The police also arrested two 17-year-old boys. One has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, disclosing s*xual images and threatening the victim with a knife in a private place. The other faces a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent. Both are due to appear at the Old Bailey on 5 April. At an earlier court hearing, prosecutor Bunsri Bhuwa said the attack has been “prosecuted as a transphobic hate crime” because the alleged victim is part of the transgender community, the Evening Standard reported. The attack came just one day before a vigil marking the one-year anniversary of #BriannaGhey ’s murder took place over the weekend. The trans teenager was st*bbed to death in Warrington last February by two teenagers, Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, who were both handed life sentences last month. Laura Mackay, CEO of LGBTQ+ youth charity Just Like Us, said: “We are horrified to hear that yet another trans girl has been st*bbed in the UK this past weekend. No one should ever have to fear for their safety because they are part of the LGBT+ community. “Just one year on from the m*rder of Brianna Ghey, we are still witnessing anti-trans jokes in Parliament, shocking comments across social media platforms, and newspaper headlines that seek to mock and vilify. It is clear that transphobia, in any guise and at any level, leads to devastating hate crimes.” Anyone with information about the incident should call 101 with reference 6306/10Feb or contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. #lgbtq #protecttranskids #transrights #translivesmatter #uknews #crime
