In this season of my life, I consider getting dressed a form of self-care. Here’s why: I spent almost an entire year putting on clothes just to make sure I was not indecent leaving the house. This was a huge change from what I was used to. I was 100% confident that I was going to be the mom that put on makeup, got intentionally dressed, and took my baby out with me everywhere I went. A put together queen. Imagine my surprise when I spent nearly an entire year in survival mode with a baby who only slept for 45 minute increments at night and had to be nursed through every single nap until he was 11 months old. I wore oversized tees and bike shorts or leggings nearly every single day. Even to work (where I brought my baby with me). I felt horrible. I hated the way I was presenting myself but at the time I didn’t feel like I had any other choice. I was getting 3-4 hours of broken sleep a night and juggling working and caring for my baby during the day. Once my little guy started sleeping longer stretches I finally felt like I was able to care for myself a little better. I finally had the mental and physical capacity to start choosing outfits based on what I liked versus throwing something on just to make sure I was wearing clothes. I’m still working on finding my style again since becoming a mom but intentially getting dressed and picking my outfits has helped my mental health tremendously. It finally feels like I am coming out of survival mode. If you’re in the survival mode season of your life I SEE YOU. 🫶🏼 It’s so hard so give yourself some credit.
