Budgeting and Goal-Setting: I realized I couldn’t keep living paycheck-to-paycheck, so I started learning about personal finance, built my first real budget, and got on the same page about money with my fiancé (at the time). Clean Slate and Strong Foundation: I'll be the first to admit I'm extremely fortunate not to have had much debt (I paid for a local and affordable trade school with my savings), BUT I had to get out of an absurd car lease. I stashed away all my extra money so I could buy my next car used with cash. As I learned more about finances, I ramped up my 401(k), IRA, and HSA contributions. Emergency Fund & Discovering FIRE: After getting married, my husband and I built a stronger emergency fund and drastically reduced our expenses, and that's when I discovered FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire/Relax Early). At the time, I was young, kid-free, and had energy for the corporate grind, so I worked my butt off to build a strong resume. It would eventually take its toll on me though. Saving and Sacrificing: As our incomes grew, we kept our lifestyle well below our means, at one point saving over 80% of our income. We still enjoyed some of our money (that's important!), but we prioritized short-term sacrifice to shave off decades of work. Our goal was financial freedom and having options because, at this point, I knew I couldn’t handle the golden handcuffs much longer, and I didn’t want to be stuck at a 9-5 until 65. Avoiding Lifestyle Inflation: Our hard work was paying off. I climbed the corporate ladder, and my husband’s business was thriving after nearly a decade of all his hard work. Despite earning multiple six figures, we kept our lifestyle in check and continued investing aggressively, keeping our spending modest. We reached some MAJOR milestones during this time–we became millionaires, paid off our home (!!!), and reached CoastFIRE in our traditional retirement accounts. Despite earning multiple six figures, we kept our lifestyle in check and continued investing aggressively, keeping our spending modest. We reached some MAJOR milestones during this time–we became millionaires, paid off our home (!!!), and reached CoastFIRE in our traditional retirement accounts. We then decided to focus on investing in a bridge fund to "bridge the gap" from our 30s to 60s so we could retire early. Staying the Course: Fast forward to the present day, and we now have a son–our little Hiro– and we’re still aggressively investing and living below our means. We are now nearly multi-millionaires, aiming to be work-optional within the next five years (hopefully sooner!). The journey wasn’t easy, but it was simple: live on less than you make, invest the rest, and stay committed through the ups and downs. While I credit our hard work and discipline, I also recognize the role of luck and privilege. Everyone’s circumstances are different, but I believe good financial habits can bring anyone closer to financial peace. ✨ Join us on our financial freedom journey and learn about personal finance along the way! ✨ #FinancialFreedom #DebtFree #PersonalFinance #Wealth
