Today was a special one 🦉💚 Me, Ashlee, her cousins Hamish and Layla, and Amber all headed back out to the exact spot where a father and his son found an injured tawny frogmouth a few days ago. These absolute legends not only took the time to pick him up off the roadside, but also noted exactly where they found him which made it super easy for us to bring him back and release him right where he belongs 🙌 When he first came in, he looked pretty rough with what seemed like head trauma, but after a bit of rest and care he bounced back into full ship shape condition. And the best part? Getting to watch him launch back into the wild today, strong and ready to go. Releasing wildlife back to where they’re found is so important 🌿 It gives them the best chance of survival because they already know the food sources, the safe spots, and the dangers of that area. It’s their home turf. A couple of cool tawny frogmouth facts for you: 🦉 They’re not owls, even though they look like them. They’re actually more closely related to nightjars. 🌳 Their camouflage is next level, they can perch on a branch, stretch their necks, and look exactly like part of the tree. 🎶 They make deep “oom oom oom” calls at night that echo through the bush. So here’s to another good luck story for one of my favourite Aussie birds, the mighty tawny frogmouth. Hopefully he’s learnt to be a bit more street smart now and will look both ways before crossing the road 🚗🦉 Onya mate! 💚
