👅 Managing a tongue sticker outer!!! 👅 “What if they stuck their tongue out?” “What if they lick their lips?” First you need to understand why!!! IMO ALL GROOMERS should be trained in canine behaviour. We have to understand the dogs we work with for their safety and comfort, and for ours! Lip licking can be a sign of fear, anxiety, nervousness, or threat. Essentially it means the poor floof is overwhelmed :( When this happens we need to listen, understand and tailor the way we work. Ideally you would desensitise and counter condition the element of grooming, that the dog is worried about… but in a regular grooming salon, we only have so much time for an appointment. Still, there ARE things we can do to put the dog at ease, minimise stress and make them as comfortable as possible. We can offer all our clients understanding, gentle/alternative handling and little breaks. Also remember… it’s just a dogs haircut! It doesn’t have to be 100% perfect if you are a PET GROOMER.
