Those aren’t pen slots btw, they’re clips so you can slip a notepad under them and read it off you lap while seated. Similar purpose to the small plastic window on the other leg.

For those considering the RCAF “goretex parka”. It’s not made with gortex or even a parka, there’s no insulation despite being heavy. Very durable and many sizes tho
