@kindred.eye: Where is Daniel Day-Lewis on your all time list? “Gangs of New York” (2002) massive Five Points set was meticulously constructed on the famous Cinecittà Studios lot in Rome, Italy. Director Martin Scorsese wanted the set to be as authentic as possible, so the production recreated an entire 19th-century New York neighborhood, complete with muddy streets, working-class tenements, saloons, and butcher shops. The attention to detail was so extraordinary that actual archaeologists and historians were consulted to ensure historical accuracy. Scorsese even had the crew build the interiors of buildings, even if they wouldn’t appear on camera, to immerse the actors fully in the setting. Daniel Day-Lewis famously stayed in character throughout filming, reportedly sharpening knives in his butcher shop during downtime #cinema #gangsofnewyork #filmclips
