Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park covers 72,000 hectares but only a small portion of it is open to public. Still it is massive and you wouldn’t want to risk breaking your legs walking without doing some research! Shuttle buses are available within the park. These are electric buses which are managed centrally by the park and there are no other modes of transport within. Wait times are short. After your tickets are verified, you will approach the main shuttle bus stop. During peak seasons (Oct - Nov, Jan, Jul - Aug), the bus will drop you anywhere on the map for crowd control purposes. During non-peak season, you can let the driver or the attendant on board know which station you want to alight at. This is all subject to the discretion of the park management so please play it by ear when you’re there. (PS, it is not exactly the most pleasant experience boarding the bus with locals but I’ll elaborate on that in my next vlog.) Each shuttle bus stop corresponds to one attraction in the park. Also, depending on the attraction, you’ll may still have to walk 1-2km from the stop to the actual attraction so do be prepared for lots of walking! Also, some of you may not want to wait for the bus if the queue gets too long and may think that the next attraction is “only” “800m” away based on the signboards there - do not be deceived! Many locals have complained online that these signs are inaccurate and may refer to the planar distance between the two points and not the actual length of the path you have to walk on to reach your destination. The buses come at high frequency so just wait for the next bus!
