It began in the 1950s, created by Alex Rosario, Sr. to attract shoppers to his store. The first display, a simple belly dancer powered by a fan motor, was a big hit. Over the years, it grew into a grand show with moving figures, colorful lights, and Christmas music. Every year, the display had a new theme. It showed stories like the Nativity, Filipino fiestas, and even Santa in a rocket ship. Families would gather in Cubao, excited to watch the figures move and come to life. Children sat on their parents’ shoulders, and everyone enjoyed the cheerful holiday feeling. Did you know? The displays were handmade by workers, some of whom worked on them for decades! Even after the C.O.D. store closed in 2002, the display continued in Greenhills and later returned to Araneta Center. It brought joy to both older fans who remembered it fondly and new generations seeing it for the first time. The Manila C.O.D.
