In my opinion, the most boring thing about using Latex is the boiler plate that is required before you even start writing. After setting all that up, it is much more practical than Word.

For local installation TeXLive is the way to go. Just make sure not to select a "full" installation because that will quite literally install every single TeX package (~40GB).

the obly issue I have with latex is that the FREAKING IMAGES AND GRAPHS NEVER LINE UP WITH HOW I WANT IT TO AND THE TAGS NEVER MAKE IT ANY BETTER

In the 1980s there was a graphical math design tool for Macs. Why can’t we have a tool? I hate this trend that we have to hand code everything. Like you can hand code PostScript but no one does.
