ranking every yard decoration I’ve ever made (well most of them) I’ve made my fair share of yard decor using a variety of materials, some holding up better than others. All time favorite method - painting a store bought item!! The nutcracker and little tikes makeovers were by far the easiest and since they just a plastic base with paint they’ve held up really well! The viral Halloween dogs were the same thing! Runner up - concrete molds! They hold up well, they’re strong, but you’re limited to what you can find a mold of and in general what you make has to be small since concrete is heavy Love to hate - foam decor… it’s pretty easy to work with and versatile, you can make flat 2D shapes or even stack it and layer it for more complex shapes but it’s kind of finicky, I haven’t found the best thing to coat my foam decor in yet to make it last. I’ve heard of using something called Drylock to help make the foam totally weather and water proof that I may have to try. Overall It looks good, and is easy to work with but typically only lasts a season which is a bummer. Have you made DIY yard decor before?
