I basically do that. I do my messy sketch then a better sketch then the final line art and I just have all of those layers visible at progressively lighter opacities.

I also love artist that approach inking as sketching loose sketches with variation in line weight looks gorgeous. I can’t stand line art which stuff, rigid and only one line weight

This works for my traditional art but my digital no I’m supper messy and have figured out to do one messy sketch then do another sketch but a little more clean and get more details then line art :)

When I figured out I could just dRAW on TOP of my sketch my art got a million times better. All the tutorials I watched were always so linear in keeping things separated out that it would disconnect
