@ughistory: On January 9, 1971, President Milton Obote firmly stated that Uganda would not support attempts to expel Britain from the Commonwealth over its arms sales to apartheid South Africa. Speaking in Kampala, Obote instead urged Britain to place its controversial plans in “cold storage,” calling for restraint and diplomacy over division. His remarks came amidst growing African anger ahead of the Commonwealth summit in Singapore. Just 16 days later, Obote would be overthrown in a coup by General Idi Amin, abruptly ending his leadership on both domestic and international fronts. #unitedkingdom #Commonwealth #ughistory #ugandanstiktok #obote
And this is why Obote was overthrown. FYI. The world agreed that South African white government should not be getting Arms as long as there was Apartheid. Arms Sales is why Uganda got Amin but again!
