🍑 Peach Butter Delicious, easy, and a wonderful way to use peaches that don’t pass muster for other peach recipes! Softer or slightly shriveled peaches can still become something wonderful—as long as they’re free of mold or spoilage. I use my crock pot to cook down the peach butter. It frees up precious stove space for canning peaches or making dinner! Gentle heat and occasional stirring help prevent scorching, especially as it thickens. 🍑 In this video, I doubled my original recipe and increased the sugar to 2 cups total. Here’s exactly what I used: • 4 pounds peaches, peeled, pitted and sliced • 2 cups sugar • 2 tablespoons lemon juice • 1 teaspoon cinnamon • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg, optional • Two small pinches of salt • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Cook peaches in the crock pot until soft, then purée. Stir in sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Continue cooking on LOW with the lid slightly ajar so moisture can escape. Stir occasionally, more frequently as it thickens, until the butter mounds on a spoon. Stir in vanilla at the end. 🫙 How I preserved mine: I used the ingredients above, then followed the Ball Blue Book peach butter processing directions: hot butter into hot jars, ¼-inch headspace, air bubbles removed, rims wiped and lids applied. The book lists 10 minutes in a boiling-water canner, with elevation adjustments as needed. Spread on warm homemade bread or biscuits, it’s a delicious way to enjoy peach season! 🍑 #PeachButter #PeachRecipes #HomeCanning #FromScratchCooking #Homesteading
