I was on the @virginvoyages Greek Island Glow cruise, which has a one-day stop in Bodrum. I always try to have at least one authentic meal in a new city, so I walked along the Bodrum marina until a restaurant beckoned me over. Baston is a café/restaurant on the shoreline of Bodrum Turkey’s marina. Its location makes it great for people watching but also to take in the views of the Agean sea. Customer service was very good and food and beverages came out in a reasonable time frame. I ordered the house (Turkish) Sauvignon Blanc and Sea Bass. The wine was delicious. The meal came with bread service, which was essentially several pieces of bread in a paper bag. Fortunately, the sea bass was as memorable as the bread was not. It is the standard by which I will measure future sea bass. I appreciated it being filleted table side by the wait staff. The beauty of the fish was in the simplicity of the preparation. The freshest of fish accompanied by olive oil, salt, and lemon. The potato wedges were well fried and I had to make myself stop eating then because I had dinner in three hours. The “side salad” was lightly adorned with lemon juice and olive oil. I wish I had more time in Bodrum to continue eating and drinking.
