#BookReview for #SelfCareForAutisticPeople by @Neurodivergent_Insights: I started #reading this #book after I received my official #autism diagnosis but before I started making myself vulnerable and telling people I am #autistic. When I first discovered this #nonfiction gem, it so reeked of stereotypical #selfhelp drudgery that I didn’t even want to purchase it, much less #read it. The cover is bright and white, the title literally uses the word #SelfCare, and it is written by a doctor who used the word #neurodivergent proudly in describing themselves on the cover. Everything about it screamed, at least to me, this is one of those #books that pretends to be valuable but really just helps you sit around and read rather than participating in any real #soulsearching and seeking any real #guidance. I am thrilled to report I was so very wrong, and I enjoyed reading this, I #highlyrecommend this book to others, (especially other autistic folks), and I think it has well and truly earned a place among my #alltimefavorites. I’ve highlighted and annotated the absolute shit out of this book already, practically to the point of wreckage (rest in peace to those 6 green highlighters), and I plan to go back through and #reread multiples times so that I can do some of the activities, start building some of the #habits, and engage in some of the #tools/#resources it provides. 5 out of 5 stars.
