Skeletal Pup Is Abandoned w/ No Choice But To Eat Gravel In Attempt To Fill Her Empty Belly... When Dawn was abandoned on the side of a lonely road, she was already so emaciated that every bone in her body was visible. Desperate to fill her aching belly, Dawn quickly consumed the contents of the bucket of scraps that had been left for her, not knowing that she was feasting on poisoning onions, dirt, and gravel. As we stumbled upon this skeletal pup, our hearts sank. The bucket of slop left for her was filled with onions, which are toxic to dogs, and was clearly not even close to enough to fill her belly. Desperate for something, Dawn began to consume the rocks on the ground beneath her. Dawn spent that evening at the vet, vomiting up the onion she had eaten from the bucket of slop and the gravel she was forced to consume. Despite being dangerously malnourished and weighing only 23 Ibs after losing three whole pounds in a single day, Dawn had absolutely no appetite. If we had any hope of saving Dawn's life, she would need to undergo surgery to remove the clump of sand and pebbles from her stomach as soon as possible. No food would be able to pass through Dawn's stomach with that lump of dirt and gravel in the way, and Dawn would not survive on fluids alone. During the procedure, the clump of dirt was suctioned and removed in pieces. However, Dawn's temperature plummeted suddenly during the surgery, forcing the doctors to end the procedure early. We hoped that enough of Dawn's stomach contents had been removed for her intestines to start functioning again, If we had any hope of saving Dawn's life, she would need to undergo surgery to remove the clump of sand and pebbles from her stomach as soon as possible. As she continues to heal, we will slowly be introducing small amounts of food to determine what Dawn can tolerate. She has clearly endured a life of cold-hearted neglect, punctuated by her cruel abandonment. To send Dawn a get-well gift, please consider donating any items from her wishlist of much-needed supplies. We would also greatly appreciate any contribution you could make to help us with the cost of her ongoing medical care. LINK IN BIO - Donate #fy #dogrescue
