I’m a Canadian that invests in U.S. stocks and U.S. real estate. Education. Not advice. 15 million views a month on Instagram, TikTok and X. Featured in NBC, TVO, MoneySense magazine, Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, Financial Post. I am not a financial adviser. I do not give financial advice. Consult your financial adviser. I am not a lawyer. I do not give legal advice. Consult your lawyer. I am not an accountant. I do not give tax advice. Consult your accountant. Past performance is not a guarantee of future results. No offer. Not a solicitation to buy or sell any asset or asset class. There is no investment “opportunity”. All investing is subject to risk including the possible loss of the money you invest.
My home has gone up in value on average 7% every year for past 15 years. How’s that a bad investment? Or same as investing in any stock. 7% is a good return.

The problem is most people sell /upgrade within 5 years. End up just forever paying mortgage. But yea there are pros and cons to rent vs own really depends where you are in life.

This poster is the only person referring to your home as an investment. I’ve worked in banking for 22 years and as a Certified Financial Planner. NOBODY is referring to their home as an investment

I know someone who rented and when he passed he had about 20 000 to pass forward to family and I know someone who bought a condo in Vancouver and passed on a million to their family.
