I had the same thinking as you, until I bought my first automatic semi 2016 peterbilt 567 paccar 510hp and I can tell it was the best decision.

driving an electric vehicle (Tesla) made me realize why I prefer manual over auto. it's because autos seem to shift randomly and at poorly times intervals

we were taking about this in the shop the other night but switching everything to automatic you lose skill. like automatic adjusting headlights. you forget to dim when you go back to a older unit
