A group of trans minors and their families are suing the Trump administration. This follows the president's order to end all federal funding or support that facilitates gender affirming care for people younger than 19. The lawsuit brings forward 5 ‘trans minors’ and 2 ‘trans adults’ ‘who have been thriving because they have had access to medically necessary treatment for their gender dysphoria’ and claims that Trump’s executive order is ‘unlawful and unconstitutional.’ PFLAG, who represents thousands of families of trans youth, are also involved in the lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that Trump’s order has resulted in ‘hospitals across the country abruptly ending medical care for transgender people under nineteen, cancelling appointments and turning away some patients’ ‘including those that have provided medical care to the Transgender Plaintiffs’ One of the plaintiffs is 18-year-old Dylan Doe who started puberty blockers when he was fourteen to transition from female to male. Dylan had an appointment booked on the 31st January to receive his regular testosterone. However, a day before the clinic informed Dylan that his appointment needed to be postponed due to Trump’s Executive order. The lawsuit states that ‘access to health care makes Dylan’s life livable’ and ‘When he thinks about losing it, he becomes too depressed to function.’ It goes on to say that he may have to travel abroad to continue his care. Other plaintiffs have had their gender affirming care halted before it even started, like 14-year-old Gabe Goe. Gabe began socially transitioning from female to male when he was twelve. Gabe has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, and his family scheduled an appointment for March 2025 at Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C for him to start testosterone. However, a day after Trump’s Denial of Care Order, Gabe was informed that the Children’s National Hospital were no longer providing gender affirming medical care for people under nineteen and therefore he would not be starting testosterone as planned. Gabe’s family is ‘heartbroken for their son’ and worry that Trump’s Order will be the ‘first step in enabling other people to discriminate against their son or that the government will look the other way if hate crimes are committed against transgender people like Gabe.’ The lawsuit seeks that the court declare section 3(g) of Trumps Gender identity Order and Denial of Care Order to be ‘unconstitutional and unlawful’. #trans #lgbt #genderaffirmingcare #youth #usa #donaldtrump
