@thenewsmovement: European satellite weather images has shown the moment Mayotte, the French island in the Indian Ocean, was hit by Cyclone Chido. Satellite images released by Maxar Technologies also showed images of areas before and after Chido hit the island. Authorities in Mayotte fear there are hundreds and possibly thousands that have died. The cyclone brought in winds of more than 136 mph, making it a category 4 cyclone, the second strongest on the scale. Cyclone Chido also hit the islands of Comoros and Madagascar but Mayotte was in the direct path of it and took the brunt. It was the worst cyclone to hit the French territory since the 1930’s. French President Emmanuel Macron said he will declare a national mourning period and planned to visit in the coming days after “this tragedy that has shaken each of us.” Mayotte is regarded as France’s poorest territory and also the poorest territory in the EU. #mayotte #france #cyclone #chido
