I’m a dog trainer and this actually works. Dogs are really smart and he will learn to associate those gestures with how long you’ll be away. When I’m going for a while I say “bye bye pup”

He's adorable and so are you 💜 I do similar in telling my dogs either "Back soon" or "Back later" and they definitely seem to understand the difference! Adding hand signals is a great idea!
