Printers used to pay more for each letter so ppl added unnecessary letters to make money and then the spellings just remained that way for most words(some changed)

back in the day ,there were caligraphers not everyone wrote and they were paid per letter so they did this to make extra and later the publishing was also paid per letter and the trend continued

As a teenager, I once asked my dad how to spell "why." He told me to look it up in the dictionary. I literally opened the dictionary, but had no idea where to look. 🤣

I pronounce some of these words fully like this guy because my mom always said them that way to us as kids to be cute. K-nife, lasa-gne, s-cissors, champa-gne are some.
