Any garden can be a pollinator garden if you do a few things right: 1. Plant a diverse range of species - much like a healthy diet for people is made up of a wide range of foods a garden full of different flowers, native plants, vegetables and other flowering species will attract and provide a home for a huge range of pollinators. Whether you’re looking to attract sweat bees, honey bees, hummingbird moths, carpenter bees, hoverflies, or any other native pollinator you’ll find the most variety when you plant the most variety (in both annuals and perennials). 2. Don’t spray anything that could hurt the life in your garden - it’s easy to see a problem or a pest show and immediately reach for a pesticide, herbicide, fungicide or home remedy, but even “pollinator safe” products like neem oil or diatomaceous earth damage pollinators. I haven’t sprayed anything other than compost tea in my garden for 2+ years and the amount of life that exists now, compared to before, is night and day. Default to pruning and attracting beneficials, and only use organic measures in absolutely dire scenarios (though just know it is not without consequence). And for those who read this long and want to know what this flower is? It’s a daydream cosmos, that is growing in a cedar planter in my organic urban garden. #pollinators #pollinatorgarden #sweatbee #nativepollinators #nativebees #nospray #pollinatorfriendly #pollinators🐝 #organicgardening #gardeneducation #gardening101 #gardeningforbeginners
