@vegasstarfish: Are Resort Fees going away? Does the new Federal Trade Commission guideline make it illegal for Las Vegas Hotels and resorts like Disney to charge fees on top of the nightly room rate? Not even close. A new FTC ruling states that junk travel fees and live entertainment taxes must be disclosed clearly, without surprises, and that no misleading costs or charges should be levied by the venue to the tourists (or locals!). So what does this change? Pretty much nothing. Always read the fine print. While there are ways to avoid extra tourism fees and amenity surcharges, the new laws will not impact your vacation. #vegas #lasvegas #vegasstarfish #vegasnews #federaltradecommission #resortfees #vegashotels #vegaslocal #travel #tourism #vegasvacation #vegasexperience
I'd rather have all the fees disclosed up front rather than showing and finding out about the additional fees

If they ever get rid of resort fees, the rates will just go up to make up for the fee. You’re gonna pay them either way, do you want them disclosed separately or a higher room rate? Take your pick.

I get that we don’t love Resort Fees. This may be a step towards changing them, but the businesses aren’t going to reduce their fees by 1/4th or 1/2. Even if fees “went away” the cost to stay would

It’s one of the main things putting me off coming to vegas. The fees are an absolute SCAM. Just build it into the price.

I think its the deposit costs that are not really disclosed esp for luxury hotels. You have to go through terms and conditions which… cmon nobody ever reads lol

On Expedia when I’m browsing it includes the resort fee on the main page then when you check out it tells use “due now” and “due at checkin” so the resort fee. I appreciate that!

The law does help cause it pushes resorts (and the big one Ticketmaster) to be up front and not pull a "Gotcha!" at checkout. Yes the resorts have been more upfront for years, but they started being upfront when they heard years ago the government was considering this move. So it has helped.

They aren’t quite meeting the rules because the most prominent price shown must be the total price, not the smaller, fine print underneath.

Tim’s Perspective :
The things I’d do a simple law that simply states “the price you see is the price you pay & any extra fees tacked on are refunded 3x.” I’m fine with higher “room prices” if they’re the ACTUAL prices.

While no one likes the resort fees, as a member of a players club getting some/all waived at the end of your stay based on play hasn’t been hard for me.

I miss Vegas in the early 2000’s! No bottle/table service in the clubs so you could dance, no resort fees, free parking, and better comps.

Also MGM and their app is already in compliance because they disclose the rate after the resort fees and disclose them far better than Caesars does on their app where it feels more hidden.

I wish resorts fees you could op out. No pool, workout room, no wifi and I don't even watch TV. Have a key card that accommodates the needs. It's just a scam.

I do have a guide that share many of the ways you can avoid these fees - one way is by building loyalty through the resorts players clubs or through status matching. But the average occasional visitor
