Does an expansion or control joint weaken the wall support and allow insects to get in?

I don’t understand the reasons for it I’ve lived in many countries that have great thermal differences between summer and winter and their houses have been standing for hundreds of years without these

Solid columns on the corners and a silid ring above the doors all around the building prevents cracking, I use to build houses in Mexico and after 20 years there are no cracks

Is that just a saw cut on the CMU or is it a full separation? are the rebar still connected? when you fill the walls with cement how does that work?

The first example you pointed to shows a change in width of footer below. It would be considered a cj in that case.

If the control joint is fill with mortar it is to help control cracking. If it has T- rub or rubber gasket it’s an expansion joint. Most expansion joints are found on brick veneer

If us Architects talk expansion joints we’re referring to 2” + separations between building chunks.
