As an agent, I can tell you this happens all the time. I had 2 past clients get an email before settlement, looked like it was from title company. They did it. Even after discussing wire fraud w them!

I don’t think they’ll be able to get that money back. I had something similar happen to a customer. She didn’t get her money back. Best practice is to call your escrow & verify the numbers

I always call while I’m wiring and double check with the title person before I wire. It’s done in a bank for that amount as far as I know. So couldn’t be easy to send to a bit coin company.

Both title companies we used recently had us initiate call and verbally gave us a code that would be in the email & gave us other guardrails too.
