Grew up in the states and we were taught to PROJECT and if you didn’t speak loudly enough you’d get told to speak up even if people could hear you perfectly fine and volume was also = confidence

I just moved to Scotland and cringe when I hear how loudly Americans speak. I’m so quiet since moving here, making myself as inconspicuous as possible.

I wish more Brits would understand this. It's an American cultural norm! YES! We are just a loud people. I see similar when I'm around my Nigerian friends and acquaintances. We are friendly people.

It’s not even just a cultural norm, in Germany it’s illegal. It’s called Ruhezeit or ‘quiet hours’. And Germans take rules very seriously too lol. They will complain to you

American here, I agree with you 100%. Since moving abroad I’ve noticed how needlessly loud Americans can be. Im a mumbler so never been loud… except when I’m telling Americans to SHUT UP! 🤣

I've been wondering how someone can be too loud to the point that it bothers others in the US when the normal speaking volume is already quite loud. At that point it has to be on purpose

In my experience not every American fits this stereotype. I lived in Seattle and they're fairly European in some ways, one being quiet and polite in public generally. Not like the Midwest or south.

I'm Cypriot. Cypriots and Greeks in general are pretty loud but they're not disrespectful in public places there's a difference

i find loud people simply very rude, and south europeans spanish, italians maybe even portuguese for some reason especially then they are in a group of young ppl likes to talk loudly, i cant stand them for that reason😂
