If you were talking to someone during break, he somehow always managed to walk past and throw in a comment that drove you completely insane. — “Don't you have your own life?” you asked him one day, turning around to face him. Ni-ki raised an eyebrow. — “I do.” — “Then why are you always around me?” — “I'm not.” You stared at him. — “Ni-ki.” — “What?” — “You've been walking behind me for ten minutes.” — “Coincidence.” — “I turned three times.” — “I was going that way too.” — “Into the girls' bathroom?” Silence. You looked at him with a triumphant smile. Ni-ki only frowned. — “Details.” — “You're impossible.” — “And you think about me way too much.” — “I absolutely don't.” — “Mhm.” And that's how most of your conversations went. He teased you. You responded with something even more sarcastic. He never told you that you looked pretty. He never gave you sweet compliments. If he said anything at all, it usually sounded more like: — “You don't look completely tragic today.” And you would answer: — “And you're not acting completely like an idiot today.” — “Was that a compliment?” — “Don't flatter yourself.” But despite everything, you knew. You knew he was in love with you. Maybe he never said it directly. Maybe he pretended that everything was just another opportunity to annoy you. But you saw the way he looked at you. You knew he always noticed when someone had upset you. And no matter how much he managed to get on your nerves, he was always somewhere nearby. Far too nearby. The problem appeared when one of you went too far. Usually, everything ended with laughter. But one day, both of you had far too many emotions. — “Maybe you should just stop interfering in my life all the time!” you snapped. Ni-ki immediately stopped smiling. — “And maybe you should stop acting like you know everything better than everyone else?” — “At least I don't behave like a child.” — “At least people don't have to walk around me on eggshells.” You froze. You looked at him. — “What did you say?” Ni-ki immediately realized that he had gone too far. But it was already too late. — “Y/n, I—” You turned away. — “No.” And you walked away. Ni-ki knew you. He knew that when you were genuinely angry, you shouted. When something annoyed you, you answered with sarcasm. But when someone truly hurt you... You went silent. And that was the worst part. The next day, Ni-ki appeared beside the bench where you were sitting in the hallway. — “Y/n.” No answer. — “Hey.” Nothing. He sat beside you. — “Are you still mad?” You stared straight ahead. — “Y/n.” Silence. He sighed. — “Okay. I know I went too far.” No response. — “I'm sorry.” Still nothing. He looked at you. — “Seriously?” You turned your head in the opposite direction. Ni-ki closed his eyes. — “You're really punishing me with silence.” No reaction. — “That's cruel.” Silence. — “Y/n.” Nothing. Then he did something you absolutely didn't expect. Ni-ki stood up. And then... He knelt down in front of you. Slowly, you turned your head. You looked at him. He was looking up at you, completely serious. — “Fine.” You frowned. — “What are you doing?” A hint of triumph immediately appeared on his face. — “Oh.
