@ken.arrington: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 is NOT a Bible verse about the Rapture. What happens when you realize a verse used to support “the rapture” isn’t about the rapture at all? In 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17, Paul writes about meeting the Lord in the air. At a modern glance, it seems to suggest a rapture, where believers are taken away from Earth. This view, popularized in the 1830s by John Darby, has shaped many interpretations. But in the first-century Greco-Roman context, Paul’s audience—likely Gentiles in Thessalonica—would have understood this very differently. They were familiar with the practice of going out to meet a returning king or emperor and escorting him back into the city. The word “apantēsis” means a welcoming delegation, not a departure. When Paul says we’ll meet the Lord in the air, they would envision a victorious return, not escape from Earth. This echoes the Gospels, where people welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem as a king. Paul’s message is clear: we’ll greet Christ and return with Him, as He establishes His reign on Earth. This isn’t about leaving creation, but about God’s kingdom fully coming. #christianhistory #bible #rapture #deconstruction #kenarrington #creatorsearchinsights

If no rapture then Christians will be included in the tribulation period which is contradicting in Rev 20:5-6

Irenaeus (Against Heresies, Book V):
Irenaeus speaks of the gathering of the elect before the wrath of God is poured out, implying a rescue or gathering of the faithful before a time of tribulation.

Again as I pointed out on another video along the lines… “caught up” is the Greek work harpadzo which the Vulgate uses the Latin word Rapturo. A pre-trib rapture was taught as early as 40 AD

But this passage is Jesus the bridegroom coming for His bride (the church). The groom always takes the bride from where she lives, to live with Him. We go with Jesus to heaven, then marriage supper

Ive yet to hear anyone make a logical argument for why the church needs to go through the great tribulation.

The verse, 'one taken the other left behind' isn't saying that the one taken has raptured to heaven, read in context it compares the ones taken to the ones swept away by the flood.

Love this but I have a question. When and where does the marriage supper of the lamb take place?

👏👏👏👏👏 man I'm so glad you shared this. I have been wondering if you would speak on this and was so hopeful this is what you would say. Rapture theology is the largest deception of the church

I have always believed that the rapture means exactly what you just said. Being caught up in the air to meet Jesus and escort him to rule the earth. I haven’t heard that it would imply leaving.

Very curious what you’re gonna do with this part of the verse that says the dead in Christ will rise

My ex father in law (although he probably was of the “left behind” mindset) used to say he was a pan millennialist- trust God and it will all pan out in the end 😉

There are more verses to support the rapture than just the ones in 1 Thessalonians…

I love Jesus not because He will probably save me from the tribulations… I love Jesus knowing that there is a possibility of going through it and trusting He will give me the strength to do that. ~

I’ve come to not believe in the rapture over the years. It just doesn’t make sense. Thanks as always for a great teaching, Ken!

well... there is nothing wrong with believing that verse literaly, that we will meet Him in the air and leave this world. this is idea does not conflict with any other doctrine
