@teamk9training: Hi! Idk who told you dogs = wolves, but its not true 😩 Theyve been domesticated for thousands of years now. The environmental pressures and specialized breeding have taken them even further from wolves. A common theme youll see (and not just with crates) is: Correlation = Causation Which btw, this takes research sometimes in order to know these things. If youve always been told an animal with stripes is a horse - yes of course youll believe this until you research and find out its a zebra. Am i saying you shouldnt crate train your dog because of this? No. I specifically did not say that. Literally not once. Why would you think just because im saying its a false justification mean im saying dont crate train????? Make sure when you hear certain “appeals to nature” that apply to dogs that have anything to do with wolves that you research it a bit more! #dogs #wolves #den #DogTraining #crate #cratetraining #logicalfallacies #correlationdoesnotequalcausation
I've also never heard a trainer phrase it as dog = wolf, but as a reminder to clients that they were bred from wolves and helps explain/rationalize the behavior and methods involved in crate training

An important distinction between dens and crates and that dens don’t lock you in! There is always an opening and they always have the choice to enter and exit when they want unlike a crate

Kennels are just a place for dogs to sleep, they help dogs relax. Dogs actually need a lot of sleep, it's fine to kennel your dog for periods as long as they get their needs met because they're mostly going to be sleeping in there anyway. I've never seen the reasoning for crating that dogs are related to wolves. There's multiple reasons for crating that have nothing to do with wolves.

My dog doesn’t go out the door before me it’s a preference because one time he almost got attacked because of a dog not being watched by its owner I want to make sure he’s safe

even after the pups come out of the den it serves as a home site and as protection until they are no longer able to enter it due to size. at least in Yellowstone wolves.

I make my dog wait at the door so that she doesn’t run me over. I don’t see how that’s a problem.

you've obviously never had a husky. mine carries blankets to her crate and digs around until they are perfectly bundled under and around her. she is 100% making a den/nest and loves being in her pile

Dogs aren’t wolves but share 99% DNA. Dogs are domesticated yet they continue to kill & maim humans. Dogs aren’t den animals yet most prefer to hide & sleep rather than be out in the open.

we use our "kennel" as dog's safe place from the kids. kids don't jump or hit our dog but just like us humans get a room to destress, so does our dog.
