In Germany you actually only get front-loading washing machines. But I've never seen a machine that was so dirty.

Amanda make sure you leave the washer door open so it can dry up after using it. If not that’s how the mold and odor start

Put in wash machine cleaner and run the machine on the highest temperature possible once, that will clean it up inside !

Use hydrogen peroxide. Cleans everything including smells and mold

The rubber thing that you were cleaning is called a boot seal. It is super easy to replace. Mine was ripped and needed to be replaced. They aren't that expensive just find the model #. Hope it helps!

We just moved and got a brand new washer and dryer set. I made sure to clean my washer after a few uses anyway.
