@tiffanyonthetrail98: The three layer system to layering for winter hikes! 💙❄️ BASE LAYER: The purpose of this layer is to wick away sweat. As you hike or run on a trail - even if it’s cold, you will likely sweat. If you wear cotton - it will get wet and can make you cold, even under all of those layers! To that synthetic material in your closet - it’s your time to shine! Polyester is a great base layer because it doesn’t absorb moisture well. Another great option (but more pricey) is real wool! Just steer away from cotton. MIDDLE LAYER: The purpose of this layer is to keep in body heat. NOW is the time to put that cotton material on, or fleece is another great option! OUTER LAYER: The purpose of this layer is to be weather resistant - especially when hiking in snow. A soft shell material pair of coveralls and coat is a great option to repel water and block wind. I’m a cold girly so I usually put on two coats for my outer layer - one regular sized for me (small/medium) then my huge XL on the outside.
