@lilmisssmartyplants: Did you know that plant diseases have had an impact in the way we celebrate the hollidays?! Well now you do! I’m starting a series talking about some of these examples. First up is Poinsettias. Did you know that almost all of the ones you can find in the United States are sick?? Edit from original video: I misspoke and called phytoplasmas a ‘bateria-like’ organism. They are in fact bacteria but are unique in that they lack a cell wall like most bacteria. What I meant to say is we consider them to be “virus-like” in the way that they spread and the symptoms that they cause are common for viral plant infections. #holidayvibes #plantstufff #PlantTok #PlantLover #plantnerd #holidaytiktok
Many years ago I was on a road trip on the countryside of Puerto Rico and I saw a poinsettia tree in front of a house. It was beautiful.

huh. I kept my pointsettia from last year and was surprised when it grew tall, now that it's winter it's blooming beautifully. I'm just gonna keep letting it grow now that I know this 😊

Well done. Only one issue. That tree image is Delonix regia. Wild poinsettias don't get that "beefy". They are more like shrubs.

Is this why I can’t keep a poinsettia going past two years ? I keep trying but I can never make it to the 3rd year
