This French bistro hidden in the backstreets of Fitzroy does a solid $35 steak night! 🥩 Bistro X is a modern bistro located within the @The StandardX Melbourne hotel, on Fitzroy Street, Fitzroy. The kitchen is led by Executive Chef @benjohnchef (ex-Vue de Monde, Pure South Dining, Omnia), the menu features classic French techniques with a Melbourne touch, focusing on hyper seasonal produce and quality local ingredients. We visited on a Tuesday night for their Wagyu Steak & Frites Night, where for $35 you get steak, fries, salad and peppercorn sauce. ⭐️ Hawkes Farm potato rosti, yellowfin tuna - pretty much the perfect bite. Also Hawkes Farm potatoes are the GOAT.
✔️ “Chicko roll” - so innovative. You actually get that classic beefy Chicko Roll flavour from the sauce and tallow.
✔️ Wagyu rump steak, chips, salad, peppercorn sauce - tender and well rested with a great spicy peppercorn sauce. Personally I would’ve preferred the sauce on the side but that’s on me for not asking.
✔️ Wagyu burger, X rated sauce, maple bacon, fries - delicious burger. The brisket and chuck patty had a nice caramelisation and the bun was super soft. The maple bacon added quite a lot of sweetness, maybe slightly too much?
✔️ Mussels, Gascony butter, sourdough - not a huge amount of mussels and a few hadn’t opened (3 out of 12) but I really liked the flavours here.
✔️ Half roast chicken, onions, black garlic - served with a mole inspired sauce. The chicken itself was really moist and flavourful, although there wasn’t much crispy skin - which may be intentional? ✔️ Seasonal pavlova - the Earl Grey flavour was a great touch!
⭐️ Apple rhubarb crumble - an unbelievably good crumble. 10/10. Everything felt really well executed, thoughtful and exciting to eat, while still feeling relaxed and approachable rather than overly fine dining. Not just a hotel restaurant, this spot shines on it’s own. Paid Invite | #melbourne #fyp

En Indonésie, le volcan Anak Krakatau est entré en éruption ces derniers jours. Situé entre les îles de Java et de Sumatra, ce volcan a projeté d’importantes quantités de cendres dans l’atmosphère. L’éruption a notamment provoqué de fortes perturbations dans plusieurs régions du pays. Les cendres volcaniques ont également fortement perturbé le trafic aérien. Plusieurs aéroports, dont celui de Jakarta, ont dû fermer temporairement par mesure de sécurité. Près de 3 000 vols ont été annulés ou retardés et environ 341 000 passagers ont été touchés. Les aéroports ont depuis commencé à rouvrir progressivement. Cette éruption rappelle que l’Indonésie est particulièrement exposée aux risques volcaniques. Le pays se trouve sur la « ceinture de feu » du Pacifique et compte plus d’une centaine de volcans actifs. Les autorités surveillent donc attentivement l’Anak Krakatau, car de nouvelles éruptions restent possibles. Cet événement montre aussi l’importance de la prévention et de la préparation face aux catastrophes naturelles, qui peuvent avoir des conséquences importantes sur la population, les transports et l’économie.
