After birth, the chick is nidifugous, meaning that it immediately leaves the nest to find its own food. Its hearing and sight are already active, which gives it a degree of independence, particularly when it comes to feeding itself. From day 1 until 5 or 6 weeks, I can advise you to keep the chick warm using an infrared heat lamp. Its down does not yet allow it to produce heat on its own.
From the 6th week, the down is replaced by feathers, the feathering stage. At this stage, the chick can change its diet. It switches to a higher-protein diet in a form of vermicelli more suited to its new size.
At this age, the growing chick can go outside for the first time. You still need to be careful about the weather, though: it mustn't be too cold or too damp for the chick to catch a cold 🥶
