To the moms with babies that don’t sleep well… After learning so many things about sleep with my first baby, I was very hopeful on being able to create a perfect sleep schedule and routine for my second baby. I knew all the tricks and tips for good sleep — using a sleep sack, laying baby down “drowsy but awake,” giving enough wake time in between sleep, and even using top-of-the-line self bouncing cribs. Honestly, I thought I had it in the bag. Little did I know that no matter how perfect of a sleep schedule or how nice the bouncing crib was, Declan was just not going to fit that mold of good sleep. Was this hard to accept? Seeing that Declan is almost 7 months and I’ve still barely accepted it, yes, it’s hard. I am such a Type A perfectionist about so many things, so my head just could not understand why that if I do “ABC”, Declan would not sleep well. Declan is the sweetest, most easy-going baby during the day, but come night time he is just very high needs. He wakes up multiple times a night to be soothed either by nursing or standing up + bouncing. He has ended up sleeping with me every night since he’s been born, and even sleeping next to me he still wakes up multiple times. I am not writing all of this to complain or have a pity party, but I’m writing this in hopes to encourage or let other moms know that if your baby is not a good sleeper, you’re not alone. When you hear that your friends’ baby sleeps 4 to 5 hour stretches, or you see an ad about a sleep sack claiming to make the baby sleep all night long, or you invest money in a sleep course and it just does not help, you’re not alone. Sleep deprivation is hard. Standing up and bouncing your baby vigorously in the middle of the night for the millionth time after trying everything is the loneliest, helpless feeling I’ve felt. The Lord is faithful and good to restore my strength day after day to take care of my two boys. I remind myself that I will miss curling up next to my little boy one day when they are grown up. While it may seem long and never ending, this is only for a season. I pray this encourages other mommas out there that have a baby that doesn’t like sleep at night. 🫶🏼 #babies #newmoms #motherhood #babysleep #babysleeptips
